The Pre-Op RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, verifying medical history, administering preoperative medications, and educating patients and their families on surgical procedures and post-operative care. They collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver seamless and efficient care, supporting the overall mission, vision, and values of our organization. Additional responsibilities include:
- Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including reviewing medical history, verifying allergies, and evaluating lab results.
- Administer preoperative medications as prescribed and ensure patient stability before surgery.
- Provide patient and family education regarding the surgical procedure, expectations, and post-operative care instructions.
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team to coordinate care plans.
- Ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control policies.
- Monitor patients for any signs of distress or complications and take appropriate actions as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient interactions and interventions.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and excellence in patient care.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and perioperative care.
- Understanding and implementation of aseptic techniques.
- Ability to care for patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing patient conditions.
- Strong communication, teaching, and organizational skills.
- A team-oriented mindset with a commitment to patient safety and quality improvement.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).
- Current Texas Nursing License.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Pre-Op or PACU nursing.
- Previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center setting is preferred.
