What concerns me most about this bill is that they are now telling us how to assign grades. The bill states you can't make any standardized test more than 10% of your course grade. This is a dangerous precedent, they are mandating how we weight the grades for our students in this instance. What will keep them, in the future, from mandating other ways we assess students or assign grades?
This will create wonderful opportunities for nursing educators and institutions to move to project-based learning (PBL)!
I would like to see a definition of Standardized Tests; are they referring to tests like the HESI and ATI? Are there additional tests that would be included in this category. Many of us use Test Banks from our textbooks; will this be considered a standardized test question since the faculty did not write it. Just want to know how to interpret this new mandate.
